Depth of Field (DoF) is easy to understand, but it is usually extremely poorly explained. It's really just about selective focus, what's in focus and what's not. For consumers with conveniently small camcorders, there's only one problem: the camera is designed to always and automatically be in focus. If you want more creative control, there's really only two things to do: separate your subject from the background as far as you can, then zoom in or get the subject close to the camera. That's it! No 35mm lens adapters, no secret techniques, no complex math: get close to your subject.
