NPR's Scott Simon: How to Tell a Story
Jan 01 2010 01:56:19 This thread discusses the Content article: NPR's Scott Simon: How to Tell a Story
I love listening to Scott Simon's voice. Can somebody elaborate on his "breaths" concept? I think it kinda relates to paragraphs in a written story, but there is probably more to that concept than I'm picking up. That studio looked so drab--it MUST have been made for radio. |

Re:NPR's Scott Simon: How to Tell a Story
Jan 01 2010 18:48:44 I guess that would be how I heard it "short, breathable sections". I'm pretty good with that in writing, not so much in video delivery, where I always feel under the gun and very rushed.
And that looks pretty much like every modern NPR recording room I've ever been in (not the broadcast booth, but where Lakshmi Singh might record her top of the hour bit or Terry Gross might record an interview... even with a guest in another nearly identical recording room on the other side of the country). I did think it was a little odd to mic him with that thin-sounding lav with that gorgeous Neumann sitting right next to him. And if you haven't see it, here's another great segment on Storytelling from Mr. Ira Glass: videopia.org/index.php/watch/better-than...07-storytelling.html |
