Hollywood had another record breaking year in 2009 with $4.18 billion taken in at theaters all across the US. Top money earners were movies like, Transformers, Harry Potter, Up, The Hangover and The Proposal.

Unfortunately, it  seems that popularity much like a Marvel  movie plot where good and evil battle it out to the bitter end is also married to piracy.  Any popular movie can be downloaded in a bit torrent file long before it is pressed into a DVD and available at your local Mega Mart. One of the hottest  movies  of  2009, X-Men’s Origins: Wolverine was leaked to the internet  a full month before its official release at the box office.

The most notorious and largest of all the bit torrent sites was the once “bad” Pirate Bay. With “good” intentions the Global Gaming Factory X AB proposed to clean up its predecessor’s act by offering legitimate downloads. But the purported $8.5 million USD sale of the Pirate Bay never came about, expiring at the end of September in 2009.

Like no other medium, movies have a way of leaving ever lasting impressions, impressions that altsometimes you may want to share. So where do  you or I go to utilize resources that are of good quality, inexpensive, and most importantly legal? Eric makes excellent use of the Internet Archive but if you are looking a specific scene from a movie, it's very likely that Movieclips just may have what you are looking for.

Currently Movieclips has 12,000 clips available for linking and embedding. Unfortunately at this time it doesn’t appear that movie clips are available for download or usable in video projects but remember this site is still in beta and policies may change, so its definitely worth keeping an eye on!
