Here are the Non-Rules for the Videopia Community Forums. There's basically only one rule that will result in you getting banned from the site: If you are disruptive, you will get banned. You might get lucky and get a warning, but in my experience, people on the Internets that are being disruptive know damn well what they are doing and deserve whatever they get. Here's my philosophy on the site: (1) I hate rules. With those four broad philosophical principles in mind, I'd encourage you to post whatever you want, especially in the Off-Topic area. Religion? Sure! Politics? Why not? Bizarre psuedo-sexual fantasy fetishes? Go for it! However, (you knew there'd be a "however"), this is a Community and certain standards have emerged, just like with any real-world community and, if you want to fit in and be accepted, it'd probably be smart to use your social skills to communicate clearly and effectively. (2) Let's act like adults and be polite. If a member sends you a note and says "I was offended by what you wrote," it's definitely easiest to apologize and let that be the end of it. (3) Videopia.org is explicity Gay Friendly. We're also Christian Friendly, Cat-Lover Friendly, Gun-Nut Friendly and Conspiracy-Wacko Friendly. So let's try to avoid using anyone's god's name in vain and try to keep the number of uses for a dead cat posts at a reasonable level. And if you are anti-Christian or anti-gay, go find another forum. (4) Since there are a lot of different folks here, if you post something controversial, don't pretend you didn't know and be prepared to be challenged. Vigorous debate and spirited conversations are to be encouraged. (5) Can regular members offer services or sell used equipment or post an advertisement? Sure! But if you register for the site and post a spam ad on your first post, it's going to get deleted. (6) Generally, I have found specialized technical forums to be full of "I know more than you do" boys repeatedly and contemptuously shouting "RTFM!" Well, we were all beginners once and I hope we are more friendly here. There are no stupid questions and if you have the time to type "Use the search box. This question comes up all the time!" then you probably had time to type a short answer with a link to one of those posts. All that being said, I suppose I should say something to the Easily Offended as well. (1) "Being offended" is an active decision. You have to choose to be offended by something. Or not. |
